The photographer duo, Nastya and Maxim, who work together under the Nastya Vesna brand, have joined the TOP15WEDDING community. For 8 years, people in love have trusted them with capturing the most sincere and moving moments. Here Nastya tells her story about the way to wedding photography through her love for people, the magic of the moment, and the value of life observation.
Her first steps as a wedding photographer
It all started at university. I was studying in the Design Faculty at the Academy of Arts. I had a camera, my friends started to get married, and they invited me to take pictures. At that moment, I had a very calm attitude to shooting, I just tried to create beautiful shots for my friends, I did not consider this niche of photography as something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was much more interesting for me to create some kind of creative projects and come up with stories for magazines, and shoot professional models. I still love to do this now, but then it was necessary to make a choice in which direction to move.
I listened to my emotions after shooting and realized that I hadn’t experienced such an emotional response that I get when photographing weddings, such thrill, and love for people from the moment the shooting began until I show the results, anywhere else. People loved my photos, and I found myself unwittingly immersed in wedding photography.
I fell in love with people on set, saw them being so touching and real, witnessed families, care, and love. There is a lot of beauty in my life. Not every person is lucky enough to work in a festive atmosphere, to see so many different and happy people.
Favorite moments of the wedding
I love the moment right after sunset when the light has not completely gone, it is getting dark, lights and candles are lit. People are relaxed and no longer think whether the veil is right, or if everything is well organized — they just hug, smile, enjoy the moment and become “real” and beautiful. I always want to capture as many pictures as possible at this time.
I also love the feeling that I have captured something exceptionally beautiful. Light, emotion, that very smile, and touch. And suddenly I realize “well, now people will always look at this moment and remember it”. This is the magic of photography.
Each photoshoot is like a small movie. Working as a wedding photographer is inspiring - it's an opportunity to see different stories, people, those we would probably never meet in ordinary life. I also like to see such different relationships and family values. I learn a lot by observing.
The sources of taste and inspiration
My taste and creative vision have been forming since my childhood. I grew up in a family of artists and was surrounded by creative people. I've always been interested in the history of fashion, art, biographies of artists and designers, and I still adore books with beautiful illustrations and photographs.
Sometimes you can be incredibly inspired by sitting at a table in a cafe and watching life around. Silently contemplating nature. Of course, I can't forget to mention travel — from each trip I come back a little different and more fulfilled.
About her creative ambitions
I think there is room for creative ambition in wedding photography. Of course, I understand that the people who chose me have certain expectations, and it is important to meet them. But I always have the opportunity to add something creative, different, new, something that I want to try here and now as a 10-15 percent of the entire shooting. The main thing is not to get carried away, and to make the rest of the photos the way that is expected of you. I noticed that many clients choose us not even for the wedding portfolio, but for the creative one, which inspires us to make creative shoots and go off-limits more.
